Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-lasting disease that affects joints. It typically causes pain, swelling and stiffness of joints. Most commonly, the wrist, hands & knee joints are involved. Mild fever & low energy may also be present. While the cause of rheumatoid arthritis is not clear, it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The diagnosis is made mostly on the basis of a person's signs and symptoms, x-ray and laboratory testing.
